Abstract
Between 2000 and 2005, a lot of U.S. optoelectronic component firms moved manufacturing offshore. This research studies the impact of manufacturing offshore affects the innovation trajectories at firm and individual level. Based on archive data, firm survey, and individual resumes from our 28 focus firms and 81 focus inventors, this study observes the relationship between firms extent of offshoring and the firms versus their individuals. The results indicate that offshoring has negative impact on firms development of specific technologies and relates to inventors migration.
