Abstract
Quantum computation promises to provide scientists and engineers a new tool for accurately and
efficiently calculating the properties of materials and molecules. The challenge is how to build a sufficiently
large quantum computer that can compete with today's classical computer systems. After introducing the
promises and challenges of quantum computers, I will discuss my group's approach to making robust quantum
computers via quantum control and quantum error correction.
