dc.description Edward Neville Isdell served as Chief Executive Officer of The Coca-Cola Company from 2004 to 2008 and Chairman of the Board until 2009. During his time with Coca-Cola, he led the way in embedding sustainability throughout every facet of the company to help ensure its role as a community-connected twenty-first century enterprise. Mr. Isdell’s career with The Coca-Cola Company began in 1966 with the local bottling company in Zambia and continued with various roles in Johannesburg, Australia, and the Philippines. In 1985, he moved to Germany as Manager of the Central European Division and from 1989 to 1998, he served as Group President for North East Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. At this time, he was one of five executives operating the worldwide business and was responsible for opening or re-opening new markets in India, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union. His career has also included serving as CEO of Coca-Cola Beverages PLC, negotiating a merger with Hellenic Bottling Company to form Coca-Cola HBC and serving as its CEO, presiding over his own private investment company, and working as a Senior International Consultant to Doug Daft and the Coca-Cola system. He has also served as an Independent Director of SunTrust Banks, Inc. and General Motors Company. Currently, Mr. Isdell is the Chairman of his own private investment company. He is widely involved in community and philanthropic organizations, holding such positions as Chairman of the Corporate Fund Board at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Trustee of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Chairman of the U.S.-Russia Business Council and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF). He serves on the boards of a number of NGOs, including CSIS and the World Wildlife Fund and is a Trustee of educational and community organizations such as Emory University, Pace Academy, and the United States Council for International Business. Mr. Isdell is a recipient of the Clinton Global Citizen Award and four honorary degrees. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Program for Management Development.
