Responding to the Changing Demand and Supply Needs for Continuing Engineering Education in Singapore

With the industry gearing into high level of development, it is increasingly difficult for practicing engineers to find time to upgrade their knowledge and technical competency. On the other hand, Faculty members facing competing demands of administration, teaching as well as research, are unwilling to take on new tasks of engaging in CEE. The traditional model of demand and supply of CEE is increasingly being overtaken by the current reality. To ensure its continuous relevance in the University and industry, the Professional Activities Centre (PAC) has to push boundaries and reinvent itself. This paper highlights initiatives that PAC had undertaken in recent years for it to remain relevant and useful to practicing engineers. Examples include collaboration with research centres within the Faculty of Engineering and organizations within Singapore. Plans are also proposed to extend its collaborations with continuing engineering education providers from South East Asia.
