Abstract
The newly formed Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District (District) is assessing the water supply, wastewater and watershed management needs for a 16-county area including metropolitan Atlanta. Over the next 30 years, the District is expecting close to a 100 percent increase in population, from about four million to nearly eight million people. The amount of potable water supply needed was determined through the use of a water demand-forecasting model, the Least Cost Planning Decision Support System (DSS). Water conservation measures were added to the model to determine their potential effectiveness and select measures appropriate for the District to implement.
