Biography of William H. Glenn (1872-1940)

William H. Glenn was born in 1872 in Cave Springs, Georgia. A member of the second graduating class of Georgia Tech, he received his bachelor's of science degree in 1891. Involved with the business scene in the South for over fifty years, he worked as a vice president and manager for the Georgia Railway and Electric Company. Glenn also served as President of the Southeastern Compress and Warehouse Company until 1939. He was affiliated with the Atlanta Rotary Club, the Atlanta Athletic Club, and the Capital City Club. The Phi Kappa Phi chapter and ANAK Senior Honor Society recognized his activities in support of Tech with honorary memberships. He was married and had two sons. Glenn died in 1940 at the age of 68.

The William H. Glenn papers consist of incoming and outgoing letters concerning donations to the Alumni Association or for the Greater Georgia Tech Campaign, a fund-raising plan that is outlined in the fifth folder. As a supportive alumnus, Glenn contributed often to his alma mater.

When he became president of the National Georgia Tech Alumni Association in 1921, Glenn frequently exchanged letters with Dr. M. L. Brittain. The usual nature of these letters was scheduling meeting times with the school's Board of Trustees. The latter half of the collection documents this relationship. Membership lists and minutes of the regional and national alumni associations are contained in folders 7 and 8.
