    OpenRFP Procurement Webservice
(Georgia Institute of Technology, 2008-03-19) Chvatal, Don
The web supports numerous eProcurement models. Think of buying a car at a dealership compared to profiling your transportation needs online. Either way you are going to get basic transportation but you also expect to buy a lot more as you explore options, add features, and become aware of efficiency ratings (miles per gallon), and finally suffer sticker shock at the price. Ringgold off ers an online service for creating RFPs, called OpenRFP, and this session explores how OpenRFP helps libraries to choose the most cost-effective solutions in purchase of software and high-tech products, saving time and eff ort for staff and vendors. The goal is to improve understanding of product functionality, identifying important specifications, assigning weights for comparative scoring of vendor responses, while making the entire process accurate, open and transparent to staff and purchasing authorities.

Institutional Identifiers in the Journal Supply Chain
(Georgia Institute of Technology, 2007-02-22) Chvatal, Don
Current codes and identifiers for institutions (e.g., ISIL, SAN, DOI, MARC) are inadequate for providing metadata and linkage between institutional components of the journal supply chain. Ringgold, Inc. is collaborating with publishers, agents, aggregators, libraries, to remedy this as an independent and trusted agency to provide identifiers that can be used for the successful transmission of information between organizations to expedite the delivery of e-content to subscribers. The presentation summarizes the work of a pilot project involving UK subscribers (including British librararies), reporting on how the identifier is working there, its effects on publishers and suppliers, and its evolution to expanding coverage to institutional subscribers in North America.
