Wireless Cardiovascular Pressure Measurement Systems: Applied Nanotechnology

2010-05-27 , White, Jason

CardioMEMS is a medical device company that has developed and is commercializing a proprietary wireless sensing and communication technology for the human body. The miniature wireless sensors can be implanted using minimally invasive techniques and transmit data that is critical to the management of patients with life threatening diseases. Product technical requirements have been satisfied due to the unique capabilities provided by the field of MEMS, because the product function relies on nanometer scale changes in the position of the pressure sensing membrane and nanometer scale processing techniques are used in product manufacturing. Successful implementation has been attributed largely to medical needs driving the development effort, maintaining a clear design philosophy, and use of a multidisciplinary development approach.
