Abstract
The United States Armed Forces have recently begun developing newer, more accurate tactical detectors for use on the battlefield. The vehicles into which these devices will ultimately be installed are heavily armored and provide such effective shielding that operators and detectors inside of these vehicles may not be able to accurately assess the radiological environment outside of the vehicle without the use of detector-internal algorithm to translate the received signal into a real-time absorbed dose rate. The M2/M3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle's gamma ray attenuation characteristics will be determined through the use of experimentation and modeling to determine the attenuation factors needed to write such an algorithm.
