Abstract
Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) like MRSA are a major threat to our hospitals and public health systems. Unlike many other common and transmissible diseases, HAIs spread not only via direct person to person contacts but also indirectly through infected surfaces. Consequently, many of the standard compartmental epidemiological models like SIS, SEIR etc. cannot be used here. As a result, recently, many load shedding graph based models were developed to model these multiple modes of spread. However, current methods fail to model group information and cannot model non-linear contagions. In this work, we propose a new hypergraph based load shedding model to address both of these concerns and evaluate its utility both via empirical experiments and theoretical analysis. We additionally characterize the connection patterns of real life hospital hypergraphs.
