Abstract
A review of horizontal axis wind turbine technology is given. Current limitations on the economic benefits due to low wind speeds, fluctuations in power due to turbulent flow, and extreme loads under high wind conditions are discussed. The use of active flow control for the alleviation of these limitations is discussed.
