Abstract
The GT Methane Experiment is a Vertically Integrated Project at Georgia Tech. The project focuses on establishing a record of methane and carbon dioxide levels in the Atlanta area in publicly available datasets. This project was started due to a lack of information on greenhouse gas levels in the Atlanta area and seeks to provide greater access to methane data. Measurements were conducted from January 1 to January 31, 2025, using a Picarro G2301 deployed at the Ford Environmental Science & Technology building on the Georgia Institute of Technology campus in Midtown Atlanta (33.7784° N, 84.3962° W). The data provided can be used to track long-term methane and carbon dioxide levels in the Atlanta area, adding to a larger database of methane levels recorded by other organizations. This data can also be used to monitor greenhouse gas leaks in the Atlanta area, giving temporal information that may point to large methane or carbon dioxide plumes. This can be used to track sources of these leaks and allow for faster and more efficient responses to these events.
