Abstract
Trying to take on all the responsibilities that Access Services Librarians face each day can be as difficult as herding cats. Not only do these librarians handle circulation and reserve responsibilities, they also are involved with student and staff hiring and training, patron issues, interlibrary loans, and stacks management. In most cases, the Access Services Librarians have more “irons in the fire” than they do have time to complete these tasks. By sharing the results of a recent survey of Access Services Conference participants on this topic, they will gain an understanding of the skills and techniques needed for time management in this type of academic library setting. Attendees will learn why it is necessary to manage their time more effectively, what attitudes contribute to efficient (and inefficient!) use of time and the strategies available to help them do more in the workplace, with their coworkers and administrators and with life outside the library.
