Abstract
The funded R&D project InnoPortAR (IHATEC 19H18008) ran from 2018 until the end of 2021 and focused on the improvement and digitization of workflows in inland ports through the implementation of Augmented Reality (AR) technology. Augmented Reality (AR) solutions enhance the user’s perception of the real world by overlaying digital information, such as images, videos, or 3D models, onto the physical environment with the help of a device. The central challenge of InnoPortAR was to develop and test AR solutions for the port environment and give a first indicator on possible use cases and scenarios. Therefore, four use cases were selected to be implemented across the port and terminal environment: maintenance of port equipment, ship loading and unloading, container stuffing, and entrance inspection of trucks and containers at the container terminal. In all use cases, the AR solutions led to shortened process times, error prevention and better documentation. The AR apps were also successfully used to guide and train new dockers.
