Abstract
The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
recognizes the importance of implementing a watershed
approach within the regulatory program, and efforts are
underway nationwide to implement watershed management
strategies within the permitting program. Within the
USACE, Savannah District, we have targeted our watershed
approach to include building stakeholder relationships,
data acquisition/analysis, cumulative impact assessments
and compensatory mitigation requirements. Our
efforts are on-going and continue to evolve as new information
and guidance from our Headquarters becomes
available. Regulating impacts to waters of the United
States (US) and ensuring no net loss of aquatic habitats
are fundamental components to our watershed approach.
Likewise, communication with stakeholders will continue
to be a priority of the Savannah District, Regulatory Division.
