dc.description.abstract Unlike their visual counterparts, immersive spatialized audio displays are highly sensitive to individual differences in the signal processing parameters associated with source placement in azimuth and elevation. We introduce Active Sensory Tuning (AST) as a general framework within which human observers can efficiently search through large design spaces. The application of AST to individualizing spatialized audio displays is demonstrated and its use in a broader range of auditory data processing and synthesis is discussed. en_US
