Abstract
Multimedia is being used increasingly to provide computer-based instruction. While people generally believe that multimedia information helps people learn better than "monomedia" information, empirical support for this belief is scant. This paper reviews studies from a wide variety of fields to support the conclusion that multimedia information helps people learn--sometimes.
