Abstract
The purpose of this Guide is to aid Oxford planners and decision makers in their efforts to plan for the burgeoning growth in Oxford while maintaining the current high quality of life in the town. It is not intended to be a rigid instruction but rather a tool from which to gather information, gain perspective on issues, and apply to policy formation. This document is a synthesis of over a year of data gathering, visioning, and analysis of the town of Oxford performed by citizens, students from the University of Mississippi, public officials, and a technical team of architects and planning practitioners from the Georgia Institute of Technology. The guidebook is intended to be a single segment in a four tiered approach to planning. The first layer, public education and citizen planning has already been completed as the Vision 2020 process. The second layer accompanies this guidebook in the form of maps and plats - the visual physical plan for Oxford. These drawings and maps include the proposed future road network, visual zoning ordinances and graphical regulations to guides developers. The third layer, the guidebook, will serve as supplementary and explanatory information and documentation of analysis results. The fourth and final planning layer consists of policy design and implementation. This will be Oxford's ongoing task in their work toward a truly livable community.
