Abstract
Electronic resources management has increased the need for those working with electronic resources to have a blend of skills, including technical expertise. Since many who work with electronic resources have expertise working with print serials, acquisitions or reference, but not technology, this presentation is targeted towards attendees who want a more sound understanding of technology issues to resolve electronic resource access problems. Utilizing a swashbuckling theme, the presenter will address skills needed to resolve access issues. Topics addressed will include access break down points and types of e-access problems, both on campus and remote. Charts will be provided to assist attendees with creating their own access break down charts, which will assist with recognizing and resolving access problems. Real-world examples will be used to illustrate analysis of problems and steps involved in problem resolution. Methods for tracking the resolution process will be highlighted. These include commercial products and creating tracking sheets in Microsoft Excel. Attendees will learn how to recognize e-resource access problems and efficiently resolve them.
