dc.description Rick Duke, CEcD, EDFP, recently retired after twenty-five years as a Principal Research Associate with Georgia Tech. During Rick’s career, he attained professional credentials in Economic Development and Economic Development Finance. During the latter years of his career at Georgia Tech, Rick conducted extensive applied research in the healthcare and eldercare industries. His particular interests became trends in the Seniors Housing Industry, the communities where the 50 Plus market is attracted to live, sustainable communities, aging-in-place and urbanism.

dc.description.abstract Within the context of promoting improved health and wellness, it is necessary to consider how new urbanist communities act to support or impede sustainable, multigenerational communities for the future. The advantages and disadvantages of current models in the Seniors Housing Industry will also be thoroughly examined. This lecture present student work examining the growing movement to equip the independent living environment with design features and technologies which better allow aging-in-place and reduced cost of healthcare delivery. en
