dc.description.abstract Georgia Tech and Emory University are building a high-density storage facility, the Library Service Center, on the Briarcliff Property of Emory University. The building design is based on a model developed at Harvard University and copied by 40+ large academic libraries in the US. The building includes a 40 ft. tall warehouse with industrial rack shelving and set points of 50 degrees F and 30% RH. There is an office building/processing center attached. Although the design of the building has been revised over time, the processes used to prepare and transfer books and microfilm, and manage them in the future has not been studied or changed in several years. This project involves studying workflows at both Emory and Georgia Tech and warehouse technology to improve the speed and accuracy of operations. en_US
