Modernism in Milan or curated by Mark Carle it's a roll call of exemplary architecture from one of the richest periods of modernism anywhere 40 odd years from the twenty's to the sixty's in the last century in Italy and in Milan in particular when Italian architects both practiced and theorized through their practice particular buildings and architects from the Spirit have influenced and continue to influence architects and architecture schools in Europe and in the Americas and in the Cohen gallery a sampler of work from our junior studios junior students who spent Springs 2900 in Barcelona they focused on the scale of the city the building and the hand and housing for recent arrivals was the main focus of the studio as part of this semester they were fortunate enough to visit Milan which introduced them to how architects in the city resolved history construction and materials. [00:01:34] In the buildings and the built both for the working classes but especially for the bush as it Helen feel cult school who just started the Princeton remarkable curated this work the visit by bus is co-sponsored by the construction road France Atlanta and it's part of France Atlanta programming and I think you picked up brochures you came in it happens every fall on campus and I think it's 10. [00:03:05] Bust is a collector found in 2013 and based in Toulouse today we have with us West Law God Yes my chili and. Bass have won many awards and I'm not going to go over the ROCOR you should go to their website it's really quite cool it's be all that bust out 00 dot com bust have won many awards most recently what mother just said the 2900 you is emerging architecture award you are familiar with this project because on show earlier this semester the 26 was a rural south school very very simple and very very direct and they worked with materials as you always do and this was 5 c. l.t. or. [00:03:59] Their work and the way they work. Shares a sensibility with other young practices in Europe as well as in the Americas plan to mourn in Paris and Santiago de Chile high shark attacks in Barcelona I won't say much more since they're with us until Monday and I working with students in my studio and other graduate students on a one to one intervention and they had been courtyard it's been incredibly reboard rewarding 2 days simply to observe them engage the students to see how they sink and to react to contingencies that were designed build which are every 20 minutes. [00:04:39] Their name says a lot you're of that should have to sort it literally office of architecture untitled and you can parse that in many many ways their work and working process has a specificity and a directness a new trial or 2 and a short banality they have sure instincts to what the situation is and what the appropriate response should be perhaps a great description of their work and their working process is that is both precise and concise please give join me in giving them a very big hand. [00:05:23] Good afternoon can you hear me works Ok and may do. So thank you so being from that. First we'd like to thank the French conference for organizing this France Atlanta event. And to put us in the in the lineup that's really ratifying for us I would like to say and not to from the contradict but. [00:05:51] Showed us around that little bit one stance and that are opening us for the organization here. Of course thank you Samir for inviting us to do this workshop with your students to allow us to be here to share it to to confront this kind of maybe European we're thinking was this the way of students things and that's a good road. [00:06:17] Confrontation with the beach which is really rich so thank you for that. Thank you to the Georgia Tech for inviting us to let us be in the companies to be witness this discussion of organization is the 1st time for us spending time on an American campus it's quite interesting too. [00:06:35] And then thank you to all the students of sub your students but all those students that they part in the workshop. It's really a good time for us we like it we like to move it around the university to find materials and to meet people to make them part of the project with us so that's really great so thank you very much all of you today the lecture we're going to do is called c 14 c. 14 stands for got bells which means lecture number 4 teens. [00:07:11] And it's important to us that each lecture we give is different so this one the 14th One the 15th one will be the same so tonight is just made for you and it's also important because we we also try to face every opportunity is of late let's say. [00:07:33] When someone calls us to to lead to to ask us to do something we face it as a project we face kind of everything in the office as a project so this conference we faced it was a project with its constraints with everything so that's part of the metallurgy we applied to everything we are facing. [00:07:56] These conference this lecture is made of. Into 2 parts 2 stories that say if we're going to read English. That have been are not written by ourselves that's quite important was because if you put some kind of objectivity in in what we're going to present to you we are not so comfortable about talking about what we do because as I said it's quite direct for us it was only need much words so we like the the idea of picking words from others that are talking about us you train them and and give the message through them so that's what's going to happen tonight this takes just given. [00:08:47] The of our approach is not going to talk precisely and describe our project is more than the ideas more to give you the general approach and the feel of the view of our office. Until recently there were 5 now they are 3 who knows how many architects will compose bust in the future ever since they tend it's a legal status of the fear and turned it into a corporative enterprise bust an acronym for your architect to some tit and title architecture firm has become an experiment in a state of instability everyone has a share in the enterprise and everyone does the same job. [00:09:56] There is no question of reproducing is a year or two's come on. Where's a head architect supervises why the designers.
